My inspiration for this project was the movies I loved to watch when I was a kid, which was really anything that had a monster in it. I especially gravitated towards the films that were in black and white, as they felt more like a time capsule, and the effects would easily grab my attention.

When designing a monster movie magazine called “Them!”, I was aiming to capture the intrigue and fascination surrounding classic and contemporary monster films. My goal involved exploring the lore, special effects, behind-the-scenes stories, and cultural impact of these monstrous creatures, catering to the interests of fans and enthusiasts of the genre.

I very much wanted the reader to become fully immersed in the articles, and to be taken back to a forgotten age of motion pictures.

When I designed the layout for an article about Gamera, I focused on combining captivating visuals with straightforward information. I loved to include striking images of Gamera and delve into its origins, filmography, and why it resonates with fans.

I also made sure to add elements that would make the reader feel as though they were back in time, like comic strips and old advertising you may see in a publication from that period.
